I've known about Paul for a long time. He is known for bringing his mules to town and even giving rides. I've always wanted to paint him and those mules in some way. After covid and bugging him for a couple years he allowed it. My friend Chuck Clegg dressed in his "shotgun" outfit, hoping to ride along. Paul again relinquished, and we were off. Over the next hour or so I probably took more than 1500 pictures. 

          I had noticed how Paul and his mules related to one another so I asked if I could get some photos of him in front of the mules. 

          That's when I found the perfect picture for the portrait I actually wanted.
